This new 95-acre greenfield Industrial Fermentation campus utilizes a large scale microbial process to produce “green” biorational chemicals that are recovered and purified for use as pesticides and plant growth regulators.

The design of this facility includes a 120,000 SF production space, a 30,000 SF laboratory / administration building, and a 30,000 SF central utilities building.

Throughout this 29-month project, Middough provided planning, engineering, scheduling, procurement and estimating services. State-of-the-art software tools including Bentley Smart P&ID, Bentley 3-D AutoPlant and REVIT were utilized during the development of the design.

Middough was selected by Cargill to perform preliminary engineering and detailed design services for a more than 110,000,000 gallon per year ethanol production facility. Technical areas of work included fermentation, distillation, dehydration, storage and utility systems. The preliminary engineering scope included the design documents necessary to define the work to a level of detail necessary to develop a +/-10 percent cost estimate that was used by Cargill to manage the project cost. Deliverables included full process Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&D’s), facility layout prepared in 3D AutoPLANT® and major equipment specification. The detailed design scope included final development of the facility 3D model, which was used to develop structural and piping bid package documentation. The existing utility building was expanded to accommodate the addition of a new steep water storage and sterilization train, as well as additional clean-in-place systems. The new process equipment addition is enclosed by a metal framed and sided structure. Work included drawings and specifications for subcontract work packages to build the facility.

Tate & Lyle selected Middough to perform preliminary engineering and detailed design services for a grass roots, ethanol production facility. Technical areas of work included fermenters, distillation, dehydration, storage, rail loadout and industrial utility systems. The detailed design scope included development of the process design and equipment specifications. A 3D model was used to develop the equipment arrangement design and produced detailed isometric prefabrication drawings. Middough also completed detailed design of all electrical, controls and civil/structural elements through the issuance of construction bid packages and engineering support during the construction phase of the project. The project included numerous energy saving process improvements.
