Two examples of a multi-story retail concept developed for Wal-Mart are the Chamblee GA, and Monona, WI supercenters. These new stores represent a new big box retailing concept in an urban design setting. Wal-Mart wanted to design a supercenter that satisfied the city's desire for pedestrian oriented development which led to an optimal solution which incorporates a 200,000 SF Wal-Mart Superstore above a 800 car parking facility. The unique layering of the building allows receiving operations at store level, direct customer access between store level and lower level parking via escalators and elevators.
