Instrumentation & Controls Engineer - Process Technology


 

The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer collects and prepares data/information and performs detailed engineering calculations. The I&C Engineer performs basic engineering design for review and approval by senior department personnel. The I&C Engineer demonstrates technical/professional growth annually by maintaining active membership in professional organizations and participating in technical seminars/courses.


 

Essential Functions: 

  • Collects and prepares data/information and performs detailed engineering calculations.
  • Develops technical specifications & data sheets, performs technical evaluation of bids, and recommends best value design which meets client requirements for operability, reliability, maintainability and safety.
  • Assists in field work, checking installations, and problem solving activities.
  • Performs calculation checking and vendor drawing reviews.
  • Interacts with other departments and suppliers to obtain pertinent information.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • BSEE, BSME, BSChE from an accredited University
  • 5-10 years in I&C Engineering for Life Science, Refining, and Chemical Projects
  • P&ID understanding and development skills
  • Experience in DCS and PLC control system specification, installation, and commissioning 
  • Experience in instrumentation selection and specification
  • Experience in materials of construction selection based on process conditions and fluid parameters
  • Experience in control valve sizing and selection
  • Experience in flow meter sizing and selection
  • Experience in creating instrumentation data sheets, loop sheets, and I/O lists
  • Familiarity with analytical instruments 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products

In addition:
  • Overtime may be necessary as workload’s dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
  • The job will generally be performed at the Client’s production facility or industrial/construction job site and could last for extended periods of time.
  • May require occasional overnight travel to another client location/facility or the home office.
  • Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
  • When working outside Middough’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required.
