Residual Hydrocarbon Tank 218 Project | Project profile

About the client

Middough’s client on this project is a major processor of crude oil in the Midwestern United States. The client provides the Midwest with gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, propane and asphalt.

Scope of project

The Residual Hydrocarbon Tank 218 Project involved the design, construction and startup of a 150 M bbl insulated tank for Vacuum Tower Bottoms (VTB) or Decanted Oil (DCO) service. Additionally, the project installed an external 600# steam heat exchanger for VTB heating, an internal 150# steam coil for DCO heating, a 50# condensate drum, a DCO transfer pump; and, associated civil, structural, piping, electrical and instrumentation infrastructure.

Services provided by Middough

Middough provided services from feasibility through detailed design and construction support.

Results delivered to client

P&ID’s were developed and reviewed with the client. Process hazard analysis was conducted complying with Process Safety Management. Detailed cost estimating was performed to support the project funding process. 3D model reviews were held with the client at 30, 60 and 90 percent during detailed design that allowed for easy translation of design intent with the client. Laser scanning was performed to obtain locations of piping tie-in locations. Issued construction bid packages supported an accelerated construction schedule. This project was recognized by IPA within the client organization.
